What is optical distortion?

Optical distortion, also known as distortion, occurs because the magnification of each field of view of the lens is different, causing the image to lose similarity to the object. This defect of image deformation is called optical distortion. Optical distortion only affects the geometric shape of the image and does not affect the clarity of the image. There are two main types of common optical distortions, barrel distortion and pincushion distortion, as shown in the figure on the right.
